Intense Pulsed Light, or IPL procedure is ideal for reversing cumulative damage to the skin caused by sun exposure and aging. You also may have seen this treatment referred to as a PhotoFacial. This type of treatment can treat several different skin problems at the same time—including pigmented brown spots, sun damage, enlarged pores, broken capillaries, and skin redness. Different wavelengths of light are used during the procedure, with each wavelength targeting its own specific skin issue without doing any potential harm to your healthy skin tissue.

IPL PhotoFacial FAQs
The intense pulse light targets areas of the skin with extra melanin, and focuses on those areas, to break up the melanin and reduce the appearance of dark spots or sun damage. The IPL treatment is the “gold standard” treatment for sun damage and brown spots.
The IPL doesn’t have much downtime. The patient is mildly red for 24 hours, and any dark spots on the skin are darker. We like to tell patients the dark spots on the skin after a treatment, look like “coffee grounds” or “peppering” after treatment. Over the course of 7-10 days following treatment, the dark peppering flakes away to reveal new, fresh skin that is dark spot FREE.
